The KiK Concert was amazing Hi folks,

The “Kindness is Key” (KiK) Concert on Saturday, April 13th, was amazing.

There was a full house and great chemistry. We had a standing ovation and an encore at the end... it was humbling. Thanks to everyone who was able to make it out! (Here are a few of photos from the show.)

I've got a couple of upcoming gigs scheduled: check out the “shows page” for more information.

Be well,

Happy New Year, 2013

Hi folks,

I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year!

2012 was not as busy for us as previous years, but there were some great highlights with shows at the Harrison Festival of the Arts, the Surrey Fusion Festival, Vancouver's Dragon Boat Festival, and a couple of shows in Nanaimo.

There are some major changes coming, though: due to commitments to family and work and health, we will be playing our last show as Ranj Singh and The Discriminators on Saturday, February 16th, at 8:00pm. It will be a fun evening of music and stories, and of saying thanks to our fans and to each other at our second home, The Heritage Grill in New Westminster.

It's been an incredible journey to date. We started off playing coffee shops for free and made it to the festival stages of BC. We recorded 2 albums and had some mini tours, all of which were funded by gig revenue and CD and merchandise sales, a great accomplishment in today's indie music world.

I would like to thank Chris, Dan, Bojan, David, and their families for all you have done: I have asked so much of you, and you were always there for me. Thanks also to Greg Stuart and Dave Mills for helping out, and a special thanks to Chris for being with me from the start.

My crazy work schedule and no sleep habit allows me to continue performing and booking solo shows — as always, keep an eye on our “shows page” — so I do look forward to working with new artists, and putting together a new project under my name. Some of “The Discriminators“ may join in from time to time, and if you're looking for a musical challenge send me an email or we can chat. (I have some interesting new ideas, and the creativity bug is always alive and crawling.)

So, please mark February 16th at 8:00pm on your calendars and come join us.

Once again, all the best in the coming year!

Happy New Year, 2012

Hello folks,

We wanted to wish you all a great 2012 and thank you for sharing your time with us last year. 2011 was a memorable year in so many ways. Some of our highlights included performing at The Cultch (The East Van Cultural Centre) to a sold out audience as part of Festival MOSAIC 2011, as well as sharing the stage at The World Kindness Concert with so many award winning artists. Our live performance at CBC Radio was also a ground breaking show that opened many new doors.

2011 also saw the release of our first album as a band. We played to a standing room only crowd at our second home, The Heritage Grill in New Westminster, for the Found a Way Home CD release party this past summer. We've been playing at “The Grill” on a monthly basis and our fan base continues to grow, so thank you to the owner Paul Minhas and the excellent staff for allowing us to share our music.

On a sad note we lost a dear friend in Gerry Lev over the summer. Gerry's spirit is all around us as we move forward and we will always cherish his brotherhood.

I was also very fortunate to meet a couple of gentlemen who were interested in me writing a song for their Punjabi movie, which is now complete. I was able to get The Discriminators into the studio, and — with the help of a Punjabi lyricist — the song is complete with both Punjabi and English language versions. Hopefully we'll have more news for you soon as to a release date.

Another personal highlight was playing at The Heritage Grill on Christmas day. Paul and his staff held their 7th annual Christmas dinner, which included at full turkey dinner with all the trimmings and beverages for free. Last year they cooked and served over 17 turkeys and I believe they passed that mark this year... thanks for opening your heart to so many Paul!

We hope you all had a great Christmas and wish you all the best for 2012. We are busy booking gigs for 2012 and if you are able to help please do so: a friendly phone call to venues and Folk Festival societies can go a long way.

Simple Man Back in August of this year Cendrine Marrouat gave Found a Way Home a very positive review, so we sent her a copy of Simple Man... not to review, just to have to listen to.
She replied to say “I know you did not ask for it, but the album is too good for me not to write something”.

Check out her full article.

Have a read through Cendrine Marrouat's review of Found a Way Home, which she calls “a great piece of modern Canadiana”:

For the first time in a long while, I realized that I was literally listening to — and almost touching — the “soul” of an artist.

Tom Harrison of The Province has good things to say in his review of the new album, which is their “CD of the Week”:

Found a Way Home is plainly spoken folk-rock with an especially spicy flavour...

June, 2010

Well it's been over 4 months since the last newsletter or any kind of update as to what we have been doing. It's been a challenging few weeks, and we are hoping to catch up soon.

Our Olympic adventure was incredible. We were able to play to a captive audience of thousands while they waited for the doors to open for men's and women's ice hockey. We met folks from all over the world and made a ton of new fans. Our website has had thousands of hits since the games from Russia, Latvia, Germany etc. We gave out band t shirts and people took over 500 business cards. We were also voted as one of Vanoc's top acts by Vanoc Entertainment Director David Jones and assistant Director Leanne Koehn. It was a humbling yet incredible experience.

To follow this up we were asked to perform at the Paralympics Sledge Hockey games by Vanoc! It was while on route to our first sledge hockey game on March 14th that things took a turn. Chris and I were involved in a car accident (not at fault), and we ended up missing the once in a life time gig. Chris ended up in hospital and my car was a write off, and I too have injuries. Man how quickly things can change. Not only did we miss playing for that weekend, but were unable to play for the finals the following week.

Everything we had accomplished and were about to accomplish came to a halt. We were supposed to be in studio in April to record the second album. Turns out that we were not able to start playing again until late May and into June. We will just take things now one day at a time, and do our best to recapture the momentum.

Recently we have hooked up with some new and interesting people and look forward to working with them. We are now managed by the talents of Jenn Ashton c/o For bookings and info please call Jenn at 604-294-3007.

Our new band myspace page has been launched, so please add yourself!

who he is and where he sits in the world. ”

Wyckham Porteous,

show himself as the musician and singer he has become. ”

“ He takes chances though. He does this with an appreciable honesty and evident sincerity. Straight goods, likeable. ”
